Backtracking in time a bit with a few more pictures from our icy weather which came about 10 days before the snow...

Louie Thinks The Ice Is Lip Licking Good
In fact, he likes it so much that he sneaked some ice into the living room.
Katie wants in on the ice action.
The Newfs love to play with empty milk cartons and they are even more fun in the icy backyard. We always cut the plastic spout off and drop a couple of treats inside. Katie and Louie both like the challenge of getting the food out. It's kind of like a disposable Kong toy.
Ice isn't quite as exciting as the snow, but we still managed to have a little fun. A least it's cold, and we LOVE cold.
After getting about four inches of snow on Monday we took the Newfs to the park and let Katie run off leash. Louie has a wonderful recall, but since he is not neutered we always keep him on leash unless we are formally practicing his recall.
I was so proud of the way Katie kept checking in with us. She never got very far away and always returned if we called or whistled for her. Katie is so deeply attached to me, Gary and Louie that she likes to be able to see where we are at all times.
This little movie that I put together from Gary's video clips is one of my favorites of all time. It makes me so happy to see our sweet Katie filled with joy as she romps and explores her snowy world.
The Year of the Tiger begins on February 14th. Last night Gary and I attended our local Families With Children from China celebration of the Chinese New Year. It was fun to visit with some of the friends we have made during our wait. Maybe next year little Natalie will be home and able to go with us...it doesn't hurt to dream.
The counter climbing stunt that Louie pulled when he was just 9 months old earned him a place in the 2010 edition of the Newfs Gone Bad calendar. The funny thing is that neither Louie or Katie are counter surfers. I think Louie's adolescent hormones were just making him a bit crazy back then.
There are still copies of this calendar available for purchase at this link. All of the proceeds are used to benefit Newfoundland health research.

"Welcome home to the Happy Haus" is the greeting I used to receive from Gary when we arrived home from work each day. Gary and I brought our daughter Natalie home from China in November 2011 to live with us in our cozy cottage. In October of 2013, we unexpectedly lost Gary, our dear husband, father and friend.
Our family includes our two sweet Newfoundland dogs, Katie and Louie. Newfoundlands are working dogs, so we make sure our two always have a job to do. Katie and Louie are both certified therapy dogs and bring lots of joy to people who are in need of some Newfie love. They have also competed in Rally Obedience. Katie has earned a Rally Advanced title and Louie has earned a Rally Excellent title. In keeping with Newf tradition, Katie has become a proficient draft dog while Louie prefers practicing water rescue whenever he gets an opportunity. They are also both protectors of their little sister, Natalie.
